Dales Marine Undertakes Dry Dock Work On French Trawler
16 March 2009
Dales Marine Services has completed work on a French trawler which made a special voyage from fishing grounds off the west coast of Scotland for dry docking at the company's Aberdeen facility at the weekend before completion of work alongside a quay.
The Mariette Le Roche II, owned by Scapeche, based in Lorient, landed her catch at Lochinver before steaming for around 17 hours to the port in North-east Scotland to undergo repairs to her bilge keel, the resecuring of a rope guard which prevents entangled nets from damaging tailshaft seals, and overhauls on two of the main engine MAK M25 units.
The 48 metre long, 11 metre beam vessel is also refuelling at the port before returning to fishing in the Atlantic.
Andy Milne, Dales Marine's Operations' Manager, said: "Our dry dock provided the nearest suitable facilities and services available to meet the work requirements on the Mariette Le Roche II. Fortunately, we were able to accommodate her in our busy schedule. The contract highlights our ability to undertake work on fishing vessels, an aspect of our activities we are seeking to develop further as part of our continuing growth."
Dales Marine provides ship repair, dry docking, fabrication and engineering activities in Aberdeen, where it operates around-the-clock, and undertakes afloat contracts elsewhere, including Peterhead and Fraserburgh, for a variety of industries, handling oil-related vessels, ferries, fishing boats, tugs, tankers and cargo vessels.
Part of the Dales Group, based in Peterhead, Dales Marine was established there in 1987, moving in 1991 to Aberdeen where it has leased the two-acre site and dry dock – at 112m x 21m x 6.5m, the largest privately-operated facility in Scotland – since 2004.
