SD Impulse Docks at Garvel

SD Impulse is a submarine berthing tug owned and operated by Serco Marine built by Richard Dunstons of Hull in 1993.

2 x Aquamaster US1401/2750 propulsion units are driven by 2 x Allen 8S12 F-BC main engines and she is 319 grt, 32.5 metres long, 10.5 metres wide and a draft of 5.2 metres.

The ship docked at Garvel on 25th February to carry out 25 year Class 25 year special survey work included:-

Hull HP washing and painting.

Tank contents removal, disposal, tank cleaning and new coatings applied.

Forward bow vertical fendering removed, hull behind surveyed and coated then fendering re-secured with new securing's.

Ships side valves removed and overhauled.

Ships crane serviced and load tested.

Main forward and aft winches overhauled including new brake bands and fittings/securing's and hydraulic cylinder and hoses replaced.

Both main engines underwent full overhaul as did both Aqua master propulsion units.

All electrical and lifesaving equipment had annual checks and service.
