Fastnet Sentinel – Daughter Craft Upgrade and Conversion
February 2017
During January, we carried out a Daughter Craft upgrade on the EERV Fastnet Sentinel for Sentinel Marine. The 21-day project commenced just before Christmas 2016 and required around the clock specialist manning resources; all provided by Dales Marine Services teams.
The vessel underwent both structural and cosmetic changes throughout the project. A new 10000kgs deck extension was fabricated in our adjacent fabrication workshop along with new davit and crane foundations.
Material arrived on the 23rd December 2016 and works continued throughout the entire festive period on fabrication and destruct on the vessel.
At the beginning of January, 2017 the pre-fabricated deck extension was ready to be installed. The deck crane was removed and the surrounding deck was modified to accommodate the repositioning of the crane.
Meanwhile a new Daughter Craft davit foundation was installed. Then the davit and supporting hydraulic power pack unit were fitted together with new stainless steel pipework, which ran to and from the HPU.
Upon completion of the relocation of the deck crane, installation of the deck extension, new DC davit and relocation of the FRC davit, the areas were prepared for painting followed by the load testing of the davits and crane.
The conversion of the Fastnet Sentinel was completed on schedule and resulted in the vessel sailing to the field to begin her new charter with Nexen.
