Full works completed on Bute

December 2015

Bute is a RoRo vehicle and passenger ferry owned by CMAL and operated by Caledonian MacBrayne. Built by Remontowa in Poland in 2005, the 72m x 15.3m vessel was built solely for the busy Clyde route of Wemyss Bay to Rothesay Isle of Bute. Bute is 2612T and is capable of carrying 450 passengers and 60 cars at 14 knots.

Bute docked at Garvel over 18 days for work including fitting and testing a full new Marine Escape System, to MCA requirements. The ferry received a full HP wash and paint, the tanks were cleaned and surveyed, the aft ME liners and heads were overhauled and the coolers were tested and cleaned.

The RoRo system was surveyed and repaired along with all electricals and its lifesaving appliances received an annual survey. Further work involved steelwork modifications and the public areas were cleaned and partially refurbished
