Loch Portain Docks in Troon

The Loch Portain was in the dry dock in Troon last week, she arrived on Monday 15th January and departed again on Friday 26th January.

The Loch Portain, Lochportain in Gaelic, sails between Berneray and Leverburgh, and was the first to run a Sunday service to Harris. She is equipped with Schottel pump jet propulsion to allow her to navigate the shallow Sound of Harris.

She was in the dry dock for her annual maintenance checks with works being carried out on the ramps plus a full hull survey and a full paint machinery works carried out, the starboard aft schottel unit was changed out, main engines were also overhauled along with the replacement of the auxiliary generator engine.

She has now left the Dry Dock and is currently undergoing quayside trials on the replaced engine.
