Solan visits Leith for survey
December 2015
Solan is a twin Voith Schneider tug, with a bollard pull of over 80T, and operates around the Shetland Islands providing escort and berthing services to tankers frequenting the Sollum Voe oil terminal.
Solan made the journey South to Leith where it underwent full hull preparation and paint work. All hull anodes were replaced by Dales Marine, along with the renewal of cathelco protection anodes. Two MAN 9L27/38 main engines had each unit opened for survey and rebuilt. Solan’s inlet and outlet valves were removed and stripped for inspection and were then rebuilt and refitted for service. Assistance was provided for the Voith unit survey and inspections.
Dales Marine completed further work to Solan included the lowering, arrangement and calibration of the anchor chains. This was followed by load testing of all engine room lifting points, the removal and testing of the relief valves, opening of the air receivers for survey and Solan’s two main engine box coolers pressure tested. All repairs were attended and approved by Lloyds Register Surveyor Standards.
